Please read these rules and policies thoroughly. You and/or your event group are responsible for following the studio rules as outlined below.
Kestrel Fields Studio is in a residential neighborhood. Our gravel driveway is sturdy but somewhat uneven. There are 17 stairs with a good handrail to access the studio. The studio is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible.
Artists and creatives of a variety of media are invited to use Kestrel Fields Studio & Art Residency. There may be limitations to the space in terms of whether it is appropriate for all types of media. If you are wondering whether you'll be able to do what you do in our space, let's just talk about it.
You must be 18 years of age or older to reserve Kestrel Fields Studio.
GENERAL
Please treat this space as if it is your own home. Please clean up whatever mess you make.
Absolutely no smoking of any type is allowed in the studio. If you smoke cigarettes, we can arrange a smoking area for you outside. Smoking any marijuana product on the property is strictly prohibited.
Quiet hours are 9pm-8am
You are responsible for your own safety while at Kestrel Fields Studio. We are not liable for any accident or injury you have while using the facility or making/installing your artwork. Please ask your insurance provider for additional coverage if you are concerned about this. There is a first aid kit available on-site.
Do not put anything in the toilet or down the sink that isn’t “the usual.” Any art supplies or materials that need to be disposed of (and can’t fit in the trash can) can just be left next to the trash can when you leave.
While we encourage reckless abandonment of art rules and especially of you getting your hands dirty, please consider the fact that the studio is a multipurpose space that we'd like to keep looking nice for a long time. Use tarps and drop cloths on the floors or walls if you plan to get messy.
When using the stovetop, please open the nearest window to the kitchen as there is no kitchen ventilation in the studio.
Take special care when using the stovetop--it is sometimes hard to tell if it is still hot. Best to not place any things besides pots/pans on the stovetop.
We try to respect the privacy of our neighbor to the east. Please only use the east window for ventilation and avoid looking into their backyard if possible.
Do not put any holes in the wall. There is a full hanging system as well as temporary art hangers designed for you to put things on the wall temporarily in a way that does not damage the walls. Please inquire if you need them.
Visitors cannot be on the property without the person who made the reservation also being present.
Please only use electric candles in the studio. Do not use candles that require an actual flame.
Turn off all lights and close all windows when not in the studio. Turn off porch light once you are inside at night.
Turn off all lights, close all windows, and lock the door any time you leave the property.
Close the gate on the side of the house as you come and go.
Pets are unfortunately not permitted at the studio, but you are welcome to enjoy the company of our elderly dog and the backyard chickens.
CANCELLATION POLICY
If you cancel 7 days or more before your reservation, you will receive a complete refund minus a fee of $10 + any credit card charges we incurred as a result of your booking. Cancelations within 7 days of your event are non-refundable. Regardless of cancelation date, your cleaning deposit will be returned in full.
EVENTS
Let us know your set-up needs for tables/chairs/add-ons when you create your reservation, all of which are listed on our pricing page. A list of studio amenities can be found here. If you need something that isn't listed, please ask! We will discuss everything you need for your event to be successful and both agree to services, amenities, and costs in writing.
Parking:
For your event with five or fewer vehicles, we can accommodate on-site parking. If you anticipate a larger group, we limit on-site parking. Additional parking can be found on Irish Drive, across the street from the property, or on Vine Drive. If you park on Vine, please pull off the road enough so that you do not block the designated bike lane on either side of the road. We encourage visitors to carpool, bicycle, or take the #9 bus from the Downtown Transit Center (stop #766) if possible.
While hosting an event at Kestrel Fields Studio, you will need to manage parking yourself, which may require an additional person standing out front to direct. You also have the option to pay for us to help you manage it.
Please communicate our building location, accessibility information, and the parking situation to all potential participants.
Food and drink:
You can bring your own food and drink to consume or share with guests during your event or open hours. Please note that alcohol is only allowed to be served if your event is free and no money has exchanged hands at any time. If serving alcohol at your free event, please limit servings to a 2-drink maximum per person. Per federal and state laws, serving alcohol to anyone under 21 is illegal and therefore not allowed at Kestrel Fields Studio.
USING THE OUTDOORS
Kestrel Fields Natural Area to the west and north is directly adjacent to our property and we encourage using it to its full extent! You are also welcome to set up a chair in our yard if you are comfortable with our dog and chickens roaming around, not to mention our family with our various projects.
