What can I deduct? Do I bring receipts to my accountant? Is my creative work a business or a hobby? What is a Schedule C? How do I deduct my home studio? Why do freelancers have to pay taxes quarterly, and how do I do that?
Hannah Cole is a tax expert who specializes in working with creative businesses and artists. A long-time working artist with high-level exhibition history, and a tax and money columnist for the art blog Hyperallergic, the financial challenges of freelancers and small creative businesses are both relevant and personal to Hannah.
Hannah will Zoom in LIVE from Asheville, NC for this workshop session at Kestrel Fields Studio. Heather Matthews (owner of Kestrel Fields Studio and devout Hannah Cole fan) will facilitate the meeting and ensure the live audience has a chance for questions, interaction, and hands-on learning.

Heather has family in Asheville, NC and so was eager for any/all news when Hurricane Helene hit in October 2024. (They and their property are all alright--phew!)
Hannah Cole was affected along with many other artists in their downtown river district. A percentage of your ticket will support the artist community in Hurricane Helene relief efforts in Asheville, NC, and sponsor Hannah's own art residency at Kestrel Fields Studio later this year. Learn more here about supporting artists in Asheville via ArtsAVL (the Asheville Area Arts Council).
