"I'M Not Ready For An Art Residency"

Artists are constantly engaging in self talk. A lot of it is positive:

"I am an artist."

"I am good enough."

"I am following my calling."

As Dame Maggie Smith put it (in regards to her acting career): "I don't have a choice."

Also, I am willing to bet that there is WAY more NEGATIVE self talk going on. You probably know the phrases all too well (even if you're not an artist).

When it comes time to applying for a residency, here is what we often hear:

"I don't have the time."

"Residencies are for Artists. I am not that."

"I don't have the money."

"I'd do an art retreat. But a residency? I'm not ready for that."

"I wouldn't be able to get away from work."

"I wouldn't be able to be away from my family."

Sound familiar? 

It's not that there aren't real things and people keeping us from achieving our goals... adulting is real! But there are *definitely* solutions and re-frames to every one of these obstacles, including simply finding the right residency.
